The Bluegrass Business Analysis Chapter takes the summer off from chapter meetings so that our members and participants can take vacations with their families. Some of my greatest memories growing up are of family vacations to the Canada side of Niagara Falls, Disney World, Universal Studios and others. I have continued these traditions for my kids while they were growing up, taking them to Florida, Air Force Museum, Six Flags Amusement Park, Carowinds Amusement Park, Universal Studios and others. We hope that all children get to have those experiences with their families and have those cherished memories later in life. So we promote that idea by not holding meetings in June and July, so that families can get busy making those memories.
That does not mean that the Board of Directors sleeps during the summer. Your Board will be busy planning the fall, winter and spring schedule for the Chapter. We will once again hold our Winter Networking Social in December. We are busy planning for a Leadership Fair in the fall and a BA Workshop in the fall or spring. We hope to add more exciting events to our calendar that will add value to our participants’ professional lives.
This will add to our great accomplishments from our first seven months of existence. We have held six program meetings and one Networking Social. We have heard some great topics of Guiding Your Career, Soft Skills, Change Management, Responsive Design and Changing Trends in the Business Analysis field. We have heard from presenters from the international and regional community as well as our local talent. We have continually improved our processes and communication to the community. Our meeting notifications first went out in email. We then moved that to MailChimp. We now have a much improved, extended content, professional looking website. If you are reading this message, then you have already seen that. Future meeting notifications will go out directly from the website, which is an integrated association management platform, which manages our content, contact list and events. Participants can pay online directly from our new website.
It has been an exciting seven months. It has seen us create and nurture relationships with The Solarity Group, the local PMI chapter, Tempur Sealy and TEK Systems. Our Chapter was represented this spring on the Program Advisory Committee (PAC) of ITT Technical Institute; having two of our representatives participate. We look to continue our community outreach in the fall to Toyota, Lexmark, UK as well as state, county and local government, among others.
In those seven months there have been exciting happenings at the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA®) as well. We have a new President and CEO, Stephen Ashworth. Who comes to us with an extensive Business Management, Strategic Outlook and Business Education background. We also have a new Head of Chapters and Volunteers, Lori Gotlieb. Who comes to us with a great Non-profit organizational management background; and Brenda Stone, our new Chapters and Volunteers Administrator. So it is easy to see that IIBA has placed great emphasis on chapters this year. We look forward to joining those ranks soon. Also, the next evolution of the “bible”, the Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® (BABOK®) v3.0 is now in public review and due out in final published form by end of the year.
So exciting things happening internationally and here in the Bluegrass region. We are proud of our accomplishments to date and look to continue our growth and community involvement in the future. You are welcome to join us in any capacity you wish. We hope to see you in the fall! If at any time you wish to contact us, feel free to email Bluegrassiiba@gmail.com
